| A Top Tip for Paraset builders who
want the normal receive range but would like some "bandspread" on the Ham
Bands?
Could this Top Tip be for you?
As you are aware we like to use our Parasets
and as you may have already found out the Paraset in its' original receive
format leaves a lot to be desired when it comes to being used on 40m. In
fact it is very hard to use on receive in this band as there is so little
bandspread. Having a QSO on 40 is all but impossible. Would you like some
bandspread? How about trying this little dodge.....
Remove the friction drive mechanism on
the tuning capacitor and fit small variable capacitor in its place. Replace
the knob. It will not look as if the rig has been modified. No extra holes
are required and you can return it to original spec at any time. This capacitor
can be just like the main tuning one...... except that all vanes are removed
bar one fixed vane and one moving vane. Connect this capacitor in parallel
with the main tuning capacitor. Now set the frequency of interest using the
main dial and then tune around with this bandspread capacitor. It will make
tuning much easier on 40 and considerably better on 80.
Above all, have some fun with the
Paraset.
